Get Involved
How can I get involved?
Below you will find a section that fits you! The Office of Student and Community
Engagement offers a host of opportunities. We participate in volunteer and civic
action initiatives that impact diverse community agencies and individuals.
There is a fit for you! You
may want assistance in developing a service-learning class. Perhaps you want to
volunteer. You'd like to nominate someone for Volunteer of the Month. Or,
perhaps you represent an agency in need of volunteers. Join us in our commitment
to serve and to truly make a difference. As Margaret Meade so simply states,
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful people can make a difference, in
fact it is the only thing that ever has."
Delta State University students logged over 57,000 volunteer hours in 2005. To become part of the service corps of Delta Volunteers, you can either complete the form below or drop by our office to learn more about how you can use your interests and talents to make a difference in your college community. In addition, you can check out opportunities for student service-based employment. Sign Up Form
If you would like to join the Delta Volunteers Agency Clearinghouse, please complete the form below or drop by our office. Once the form is completed, a staff member will set up a site visit to take a photograph and gain a more clear first-hand understanding of your agency needs. Clearinghouse member benefits include a flyer posting service for campus bulletin boards, a web posting, and an invitation to participate in the annual Delta Volunteers celebration. If you are in need of a paid student worker to assist in volunteer management and recruitment, please contact us to discuss possible collaborations. Sign Up Form
Any Delta State University faculty member can contact John Heggen to schedule an appointment for technical assistance in service-learning curriculum development. Faculty members can check out materials from the Office of Student and Community Engagement Resource Library.
Community members are welcome to join Delta Volunteers in meeting community needs. Just drop by our office or give us a call to learn more about how you can use your interests and talents to make a difference. Additionally, if you would like to contribute financial resources or materials to Delta Volunteers and The Office of Student and Community Engagement, please let us know. We are open to pursuing mutually beneficial community partnerships.
Outside GroupsIf you have yet to determine your alternative break location, please consider the Mississippi Delta. Delta Volunteers and the Delta Center for Culture and Learning can assist your group in the planning process.
