"Much of what is profoundly American- what
people love about America- has come from the
delta, which is often called 'the cradle of
 American culture.'"

from Stories of the Delta, The National Park Service Lower
 Mississippi Delta Symposium, 1996

If this quote doesn't define the need for a Mississippi
 Delta National Heritage Area
, I don't know what does.

The Blues Highway Association has not had a formal meeting in almost two years.  Its original participants continue to promote the heritage of the Mississippi Delta through the Mississippi Blues Commission and their own activities.

The Mississippi Delta National Heritage now exists! Our National Heritage Area, along with The Mississippi Hills National Heritage Area, was created last month when President Obama signed the Omnibus Public Lands Management Act.  The complete text of this mega-bill is available here.

A complete (?) listing of all Blues festivals in Mississippi in 2009 is available here.

For a complete list of current blues performances and events, visit Cat Head at http://www.cathead.biz/livemusic.htmlThanks to Roger Stolle at Cat Head Delta Blues and Folk Art!

Our developing Registry of Blues and Blues Heritage Sites is linked to this page.  Note that this Excel spreadsheet is searchable if you go to the "Edit" tab and use the "find" function.  This is one small section of the larger Registry of Delta Heritage Sites that is still under construction.  If you have additions, corrections, etc. to these Registries, please send the information to Luther Brown (lbrown@deltastate.edu).  The Registry of Blues and Blues Heritage Sites was a first step towards what is becoming a reality: The Mississippi Blues Heritage Trail.
